Who Are We Now?

Doulaing The Doula is here to provide evidence-based, trauma informed doula training and certification that nurtures and centers the doula. We build the neurological caregiving systems that are a part of every human’s brain.

We embrace disability, neurodivergence, racial, cultural and other differences.

We expect diversity in human expression and identity in doulas and in clients.

We do business differently, with transparency and decolonization as central to our practices.

We see ourselves as accountable and influencing the entire doula community.

We have faculty from many backgrounds who use a variety of teaching methods, so all have the opportunity to learn.

We see access to educational resources as more difficult for some people than others, so we offer financial aid.

Our courses are available in Spanish and taught by faculty representing several Indigenous and American cultures.

We see our stance as one of compassion.

If we are to achieve our long-term goal of nurturing, personalized care for all families during the perinatal period, instilling a nurturing attitude needs to start at the beginning of the training experience.

This means acceptance of and tailoring to individual differences, including a history of cultural trauma. However, this point of view has been politicized and devalued.

Doula work has ALWAYS been political. We stand for the empowerment of the individual within a series of systems designed to take that power away.

Seeing an individual with the whole of their history, challenges and privileges, is part of what we do and how we do it, and we will continue to do so. It’s how we train people to doula, and how we train people doulas, and how we stand behind you throughout your career.
